I am writing to apply for the position of Policy Analyst at Google’s offices in Sydney.

I have a strong academic background, achieving a 2:1 in my LLB Law with American Law Degree from the University of Nottingham, with a 3.03 GPA in American Law for my exchange year at the University of Texas at Austin. I am currently studying a Masters of Law at the University of New South Wales and have a distinction average thus far. I recently received the Dean’s Award for Best Performance in two classes.

Computers have been a longstanding hobby of mine since I built my first website when I was aged 12. I have a broad understanding and knowledge of internet technologies, and, being a law student, I keep abreast of legal and policy developments in this area. I am a fast learner with an inquisitive mind, and strive to fill in gaps in my knowledge as quickly as possible. The fast-paced movement of technology, particularly the internet, fascinates me, and I am keen to be involved in the analysis and development of policy in this area.

I am personable, flexible, and organised, as demonstrated by my management of two jobs and a Masters degree, as well as sporting and social activities. I work best in a team, where I find that ideas and knowledge can be shared more easily, and that better working relationships can be built. I am a highly-driven and motivated individual who works best in an environment that constantly challenges me and pushes me to achieve my best.

As a Paralegal and Research Assistant I have developed excellent communication and research skills. I regularly read and summarise complex policy documents, both in memorandum form and by explaining the document in person, adapting the explanation based on the needs and existing knowledge of the recipient. I have also volunteered in a policy research capacity and have published three research papers in peer-reviewed academic journals. I have qualifications in Counselling and British Sign Language, as well as wide-ranging experience communicating with different people; including law firm Partners, secretaries, Judges and academics.

I feel that I would excel in this role, and ultimately ensure the policy outcomes that Google seeks in Australia.
