I
am writing to express my interest in being part of the
Ocean
Energy
Forum
Steering

Group on environment/consenting.

I
am currently a
Research
Fellow in
International
Marine
Policy at
IDDRI,
a research

organisation based in
Paris.
I
am concurrently undertaking my
PhD with the
Australian

National
University, exploring marine governance issues, using the marine renewables

industry as a case study.
Previously
I
worked for a leading corporate law firm in the

energy
& environment group, and at a small non-‐government organisation dealing with

energy policy and renewables.

I
have written about the legal issues concerning marine renewables and recently

published a paper in the
Journal of
Underwater
Technology, the first detailed review of

UK
consenting processes in the academic literature.
A
further paper on
Environmental

Impact
Assessment is undergoing peer review for a special issue of
Ocean and
Coastal

Management.
I
have presented at conferences in
Australia and
Europe, including the

inaugural
Environmental
Impacts of
Marine
Renewables conference in
2012.
I
also have

considerable experience with preparing discussion papers and submissions.

I
have developed a strong network of colleagues in the field and have been able to

benefit from their detailed knowledge.
During my
PhD research
I
conducted interviews

with key figures in the industry regarding environmental and consenting issues.
I
have

been a visiting researcher at the
International
Centre for
Island
Technology at
Heriot-‐
Watt
University and
I
am a member of the
International
Network on
Ocean
Renewable

Energy
(INORE).
I
have been selected to attend the
2014
INORE
symposium to further

network and advance my research.

I
believe that my knowledge of environmental and consenting issues, my passion for

energy and the environment, and my research and writing experience would make an

excellent contribution to the work of the
Ocean
Energy
Forum.
