A clear read of the ocean governance room
I help NGOs, alliances, funders and research groups navigate international ocean governance: the high seas and the BBNJ Agreement on biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction, marine spatial planning, and the work of regional fisheries management organisations (RFMOs).
What the work looks like
- Briefs written for a specific decision, meeting or audience
- Support before and during negotiations and intergovernmental meetings
- Review of positions, submissions and campaign asks
- Tracking of processes and media coverage, so you know what is moving and when
- Qualitative analysis of governance debates: who is saying what, and why it matters
Offshore wind, wave and tidal energy sit here too. I treat them as ocean-governance questions about space, rules and who decides, rather than as a separate energy service.
Background
This draws on a decade in and around the UN process that produced the High Seas Treaty, alongside regional and sectoral work at IDDRI and REN21.
A good fit if you need someone who knows the process well enough to tell you what is realistic, and who will give you a sharp read of the room rather than another general oceans presentation.
