Shipping regulator takes on marine plastic
The International Maritime Organization recently agreed an Action Plan to prevent plastic litter from ships. The Plan identifies several measures, including improving facilities at ports, education and training, and further research to understand the contribution of ships to this global problem.
Our Ocean Our Legacy – Bali 2018
The fifth Our Ocean conference just took place in Bali, with governments, non-profits and the private sector making 305 commitments, including US$10,7 billion in financing and the protection of 14 million km2 of ocean. Papua New Guinea will establish 7,500 km2 of marine protected areas in the Bismarck Sea, one of the most biologically diverse area on earth. Carrefour announced that half of all fish it sells will come from sustainable sources by 2020.
