sunday
it was supposed to be a day of rest,
but we awoke early.
passed the first test.
we got in the car,
arrived with plenty of time.
i didn’t want to leave,
but there were no tears.
we weren’t really sad,
just happy to have been
here
together.
the machine scanned all my gear,
i half slept,
then swept away the mess on my desktop.
now the laundry’s drying
amidst terracotta shards
strewn by the wind.
a siren sounds,
a reminder that our species still tries to care.
i already miss your silly smile.
i’m glad i’m here,
i wish i was there.
