Abstract

How can renewable energy accelerate the energy transition while also delivering tangible benefits for nature and communities? This joint online event hosted by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and REN21 will explore this question through the lens of the newly adopted Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA) and its provisions on non-price criteria (NPCs) in renewable energy auctions. Bringing together perspectives from policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society, the event will highlight how well-crafted energy policy can drive climate action while also restoring ecosystems and empowering local communities. We’ll take a deep dive into the role of NPCs within the EU’s new policy framework and examine their current and future implementation across EU Member States. Speakers • José Elias Cabrera, Policy Officer, DG ENER (European Commission) • Louise Combret, Renewable Energy Policy Associate, The Nature Conservancy • Anne Georgelin, Deputy Head of the Office for Hydraulic and Marine Renewable Energies at the French Directorate-General for Energy and Climate (DGEC). • Ross Glover, Senior Nature Strategy Manager, SSE Renewables • Zoë Ledwith, Policy Advisor, REScoop • Dr Boze Hancock, Senior Marine Habitat Restoration Scientist, The Nature Conservancy • Andrea Wainer, Sustainability Lead, REN21
