Academia Obscura
The hidden silly side of higher education
Academia Obscura is a playful excavation of the stranger, sillier, and often unintentionally hilarious corners of academic life.
Born as a long-running blog and later expanded into a book, Academia Obscura collects curious research topics, baffling studies, obscure academic rituals, and moments where the seriousness of higher education gently collapses under its own weight. From hyper-specific PhDs to unintentionally comic journal articles, it celebrates the fact that behind the polished language of academia lies a deeply human — and frequently absurd — world.
Rather than mocking scholarship, Academia Obscura is a love letter to curiosity taken to its extreme: a reminder that knowledge production is often weird, occasionally wonderful, and never quite as tidy as it pretends to be.
The book was published in 2018 and grew out of several years of writing and collecting material while navigating life in and around universities.

Alongside the book, I wrote a series of blog posts under the Academia Obscura banner — short pieces highlighting odd papers, strange academic customs, and moments of scholarly surrealism.
